Using traditional basketry techniques, we will weave round trays that will then be embellished with beads, shells and yarn to give them their own unique personality! Parents are welcome to register with their children. #278115 class fee: $42.00 Multnomah Arts Center, Portland, OR Wicker Rinko Tray Ages 13 – 99 Jan. 21 - Feb. 11 ~1:30 - 3:30pm, 4 classes Learn the basketry technique known as a Rinko to create this fun and utilitarian basket. The Rinko technique creates a round basket base whose design is reminiscent of a lotus flower. This is a great project for both beginners and the more experienced basket weaver. Materials included in class price. Class #279445 class fee: $96.00 Multnomah Arts Center, Portland, OR Wicker Bread Basket ( Portland Community College Spring Term dates TBD) This oval tray, made out of reed and accented with beads, makes a lovely serving tray for gatherings with friends and family. Weave a basket, mask, or other art piece using the Japanese technique of Random Weave. Students will have a variety of colors of reed available to work with. This is a fun and easy technique that produces great artistic results! Materials Fee: $15 Museum of Contemporary Craft through Portland Community College Portland, OR September 24 - October 22 (Wednesdays from 1:30 - 3:30pm) Basketry: Woven Masks (class #274846) Not your ordinary basketry class! Start off by learning some easy basic basketry techniques. Then, using a variety of materials, explore those techniques and "sculpt" your own unique masks. There is no right or wrong in this class, only fun! Materials fee: $30 Multnomah Arts Center, Portland, OR Saturday September 13th; 10am - 3pm Introduction to Cedar Bark Basketry (class #272654) This hands on class is perfect for beginners. Weave a small basket using western red cedar bark. Gathering & materials preparation discussed. Bring scissors, knife, spray bottle, old hand towel, pencil & awl (some tools available for use in class). Materials fee $20. In this class, you will learn to make several different designs using kumihimo disks of different shapes. Please bring scissors to class. Session 1 - Wednesdays, April 2 - 23, class# 260417 Session 2 - Wednesdays, April 30 - May 21, class# 261468 4:00PM - 5:00PM Multnomah Arts Center, Portland, OR Spring Term 2008 @ PCC Shooting Star (Ply-Split Basketry) April 17, 24, May 1, 8 5:30 – 8:30 PM (4 sessions) Museum of Contemporary Craft through Portland Community College Portland, OR This basket transforms the traditional Indian camel girth making technique of ply-splitting into three dimensional form. Similar to the over and under of twill work, ply-splitting goes through and around. For this project we will use 4-ply perle cotton cords to create this fun multi colored basket. What to bring: Scissors, latch hook tool or gripfid if you have one.
